SEVERAL years ago, SK Manir, located on the outskirts of Kuala Terengganu, was a sleepy hollow as far as sport was concerned.

This was probably due to the mindset of parents sceptical about the future of sport, and their resentment of children wearing shorts or skirts.

Realising this, the SKM headmaster, together with the school teachers, decided to work out a plan to encourage parents to visit the school whenever their children were in training.

As it turned out, the plan worked, and the parents eventually accepted the school's approach toward sports activities.

A few years later, their efforts began to show the results and by 1997, SKM …
