Symantec acquisitions mark success, growth
Cupertino, Calif. -- Symantec Corp. may have its roots in the IBM PC market, but the company's effort to become a major player in the Macintosh arena is off to a blooming start.
Even before the 1985 introduction of its first product, the highly successful Q&A file manager for the PC market, Symantec established the key principles of its business strategy: to promote the company through publishing, acquisitions and internal development and to listen to its customers.
The expansion program began with the creation of Symantec's Turner Hall Publishing Division, led by Executive Vice President Tom Byers. The unit's charter was to focus on a specific segment of the PC market. The group went on to fill a niche with Lotus 1-2-3 add-in products like Note-It and SQZ!.
