Don't laugh; editors and reporters for the Post and other national papers sometimes seem almost this goofy. Take a Washington Post headline not all that long ago: "Fatalities Higher for Latino Pedestrians." The story began with a harrowing incident that supposedly typifies a trend. When El Salvadoran immigrant Gladis Lazo and her five-year-old daughter tried to dash across a road to buy refried beans, they were struck by a car. Lazo was critically injured, her daughter killed.
