JAKARTA, March 1 Asia Pulse - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) on Wednesday began investigating two former Bank Indonesia directors, suspected of being involved in the misuse of the central bank's loans to bail out financially beleaguered banks in 1998.
AGO spokesman Muljohardjo said the two suspects identified as Hendro Budianto and Heru Supratomo had allegedly misused their authority and position.
Both Hendro and Heru have been sent to the Salemba state penitentiary for temporary custody until next March for fear that they would escape and destroy evidence.
The other suspect in the loan misuse, Paul Sutopo who was also former Bank Indonesia director has not been detained so far.
AGO also has named seven other suspects from the banks receiving the loans known as Bank Indonesia Liquidity Credit (BLBI) assistance.
