HANOI, March 1 Asia Pulse - Vietnam's gold imports have hit 12 tonnes so far this year, far higher than last year's demand, according to the World Gold Council.
The country imported 16 tonnes of gold last year between January and March and less than 1 tonne in the time-frame in 1999, the council said.
The real estate market has been warming up and people need gold to buy houses, particularly in Hanoi, a council staff member said.
