MANILA, March 1 Asia Pulse - The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) officials at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) were alerted today on the government's complete ban on the importation of meat and meat products from European countries following an outbreak of mad cow disease there.
The red alert status was contained in a directive issued by BAI Director Teodoro Abila to Dr. Davinio Catbagan, chief of the Animal Industry at the premier airport.
Catbagan said that the virus that goes with contaminated meat could greatly affect the human nervous system once consumed.
He also said that strict examination of all meat and by-meat products shipment will be strictly implemented at the Customs refrigerated warehouses where they are stored. The meat shipments are being flown into the country via cargo aircraft such as Lufthansa, British Air, Swiss Air, ...
