CHASHMA HYDEL POWER PROJECTS INAUGURATED IN PAKISTAN.
CHASHMA, March 1 Asia Pulse - President Mohammad Refiq Tarar stressed the need for promoting hydel power generation for boosting the country's economy for alleviation of poverty. He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the first three units of Chashma hydropower project having collective capacity of 184 mw.
Chairmen Wapda, Lt.-Gen. Zulfiqar Ali Khan, ambassadors of Japan, France and Korea, besides others, including representatives of relevant companies and senior officials of the Ministry of Water and Power were also present.
Talking about the country's hydel potential, the President said, "It is a matter of some concern that despite having the potential of 40,000 megawatts hydel power, Pakistan has been able to utilize only 12 percent of this potential."
