SYDNEY, March 1 Asia Pulse - Prime Minister John Howard today warned Australian farmers they must become more efficient if they were to compete in international markets.
Mr Howard said the government could not afford to subsidise farmers the way the US did.
"Because we can't afford, because we're not as wealthy as the United States to match American subsidies, the only way they can compete is to be more efficient," he told Radio 2UE.
