COIMBATORE: Despite a steep decline in area, the domestic production and productivity of pearl millet has grown substantially in the last decade, observed Dr S.K. Bhatnagar, Project Coordinator, All India Coordinated Pearl Millet Improvement Project, ICAR, Jodhpur.
Reviewing the crop status at the Pearl Millet Group Meeting at the Tamil Nadu University here, he said the summer cultivation of pearl millet had nearly doubled in Gujarat to around 2 lakh hectares in the recent years, with mean productivity of over 2 tonnes per hectare.
