Nimble Technology(TM), Inc. (www.nimble.com), a Seattle-based software company developing a powerful XML-based data integration platform, has joined the Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI) initiative. Spearheaded by Microsoft, IBM and Ariba, the UDDI initiative is designed to speed the use of the Internet for business-to-business transactions and interactions. It will enable diverse businesses of all sizes and industries to locate each other online and define how each business prefers to interact with other businesses online.
As online business registries proliferate--UDDI being one of the first to be encoded in XML--companies will want to combine data gathered from diverse registries to get a complete picture of potential business partners. Nimble Technology's participation in UDDI will help clarify the requirements that XML querying applications must support for UDDI and multi-registry querying.
For example, a US-based financial services company seeking distribution partners in South America would combine information from the UDDI registry with other local registries, such as credit ratings services, better business bureaus and consumer complaint sites to create a "short list" of companies to contact.
