A lesser game
I just finished reading Paul Attner's article on Ron Wolf (TSN, February 12). Thanks for the insight. I am only 32 years old, but I have been a football (and Packer) fan for my whole life. I do love the game. Still, I can identify with Wolf's frustrations. This game is much less what it used to be. For many years it has been a game about money (it's a business). But of late it seems as if it has been a game only about money (it's only a business). How unfortunate.
By the way, I think this is a sad fate for any business. I don't care if you make widgets, write articles, write software (as I do) or play football. I believe, perhaps naively, you do it because you love it. Play it, work it because you love it. The money is the reward, not the reason.
