By providing online access to a suite of e-business apps, Oracle reinvents its relationship with users

ORACLE'S ANNOUNCEMENT last week at its AppsWorld conference in New Orleans that it would begin offering online access to its e-business software is the first step in a new strategy that could mean online services will displace software as the company's flagship offering.

The company unveiled Oracle.com, a services-as-software platform designed to allow enterprises access to Oracle's E-Business Suite of applications from a portal that incorporates essential business data with features that can be tailored to a user's desktop.
