Every year the fans pick the All-Star teams, and every year someone deserving is left off. To address that, we've named a player on each team who should have played in last Sunday's game but was overlooked. We're calling it the No-Star team. (The conference insider will return next week.)
Mighty Ducks. Vitaly Vishnevski is the only Duck teams fear. With Paul Kariya injured and Teemu Selanne playing like he is, the rookie can be counted on when it comes down to the crunch.
Thrashers: Where would Donald Audette be without Ray Ferraro? Ferraro is winning faceoffs, mucking it up in the corners and playing like he's 26 instead of 36. Expansion rules.
Bruins: How did Boston have three guys at the All-Star Game? That leaves Brian Rolston, who is a second-liner getting first-line numbers and is an unbelievable double-digit plus.
Sabres: Stu Barnes, who is having an MVP-type season as Buffalo's top center, is on pace to have his best offensive season since he was waddling up the ice as a young Penguin.
Flames: Captain Dave Lowry has shown tenacity and grit and is getting more ice time than expected at a bargain price ($525,000). Now that's how you do it if you're a small-market team.
Hurricanes: If it wasn't for goaltender Arturs Irbe, the team would be the Portland Hurricanes. He is putting in lots of minutes in his typical workhorse manner.
