Sumitomo Corp. has offered the option of canceling all purchase contracts to 126 buyers of condominiums it is building at a site in Koto Ward, Tokyo, where cancer-causing chemicals including benzene have been detected, it was learned Tuesday.

On Monday night, the company held a meeting attended by 119 of the purchasers of the condominiums.

At the meeting the company said it would return all down payments it had received on the condominiums and provide compensation to each buyer, equivalent to 10 percent of the total price of each condominium.
