Dalmas runs the Mopar
Sports car driver Yannick Dalmas put Chrysler's new Dallara-built LMP car through its first test, in Barcelona. ``My feeling was that we will be at a good level at Le Mans this year,'' he said. ``It's too early to say how good the car and engine are.'' The test was cut short by electronic problems with the all-new version of Chrysler's Mopar V8. ORECA boss Hugues de Chaunac said: ``We didn't do as much running as we wanted, but Yannick still got a good feeling for the car.'' Cadillac reveals plans
General Motors officials have finally admitted what we told you last November (AW, Nov. 20, 2000). The French DAMS team will mastermind GM's Le Mans plans for this year, while a new Cadillac team, set up by driver Wayne Taylor and Brit Jeff Hazell, will concentrate on running a few American Le Mans Series events after the 24 Hour. DAMS will use a reworked version of last year's Northstar LMP. Little is expected to remain apart from monocoque chassis and the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 after experienced sports car designer Nigel Stroud completes work on the Riley & Scott design.
