2001 FEB 1 - (NewsRx.com) -- More than 28,000 babies were born in 1998 in the United States as the result of assisted reproductive technology (ART), according to the latest annual report on fertility clinic success.
According to the new report, 360 clinics nationwide performed 80,634 ART cycles where human eggs are fertilized with sperm in a laboratory and transferred into a woman's uterus. These procedures resulted in the birth of 28,500 babies. Approximately 25% of the ART cycles resulted in a birth of a baby for women using their own eggs. This figure is an improvement over the 1997 rate.
