Russian firms Lukoil and Yukos were also interested in buying the Gdansk refinery, but appear to have lost out for political reasons (see p2).
Lukoil supplies Gdansk with small volumes of light sweet crude which it produces in Kaliningrad, supplementing the Urals crude supplied through the Druzhba pipeline. Yukos delivered 2.63mm t of crude to Poland in 2000 -- a 240pc increase on the previous year. Just under half was re-exported from the port of Gdansk, where Yukos uses Gdansk refinery storage facilities.
