Business leaders, environmental advocates and elected officials agree: Wisconsin and the Midwest deserve a state-of-the-art transportation system that includes high speed rail.

Yet the 106th Congress failed to pass the High-Speed Rail Investment Act, which would have helped to usher in a new era of efficient, convenient rail travel.

So, with a new president and a new Congress, we must renew our efforts to make high-speed rail a national priority.

With a rail infrastructure already in place, high-speed rail is the logical choice to modernize our transportation system. It's also the smart choice to relieve our nation's overburdened infrastructure -- a point that was driven home during the holiday season as …
