Canada firms bolster staffs to handle U.S. trade TORONTO -- Doing business in the United States is not a new endeavor for many Canadian shoe manufacturers, who have long done business with their country's largest trading partner. However, with the gradual reduction of trade tariffs, more and more footwear suppliers here are looking at the American market to broaden the distribution of made-in-Canada product.

Several Canadian firms are initiating divisions and adding employees to facilitate footwear trade with the U.S., while Transact Horizons Inc., a trading house established last year to facilitate trade with the U.S., is enjoying initial success, according to Gilles …
