MORE housing loans are expected to be given out by the middle of this year, said Malayan Banking Bhd consumer banking division general manager Abdul Aziz Peru Mohamed.

Maybank, which gave out about RM1 billion worth of housing loans last year, is targeting to increase the amount this year, he said.

"The market may be soft now, but we expect it to take a turn in six months or so," he said after the launch of Maybank's Visa Platinum card in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The company issued 45 per cent more credit cards last year and is on track for a similar performance this year, he said.
