2001 JAN 18 -- (NewsRx.com) -- Angiogenesis does not play a prominent role in endometrial carcinomas, researchers in Turkey reported at the VII Meeting of the International Gynecologic Cancer Society, held in Buenos Aires.
Using microvessel density (MVD) as a measure of angiogenesis, investigators analyzed 57 stage I,11, and III endometrial carcinomas that had been removed during hysterectomies over an eight-year period. They used statistical analysis to determine overall and disease-free survival.
"There was no correlation between MVD and the other prognostic parameters: histologic and nuclear grade, myometrial invasion, lymph node status and lymphovascular space invasion," said Taner Turan et al. in their report, titled "Angiogenesis is not a prognostic marker in endometrial carcinoma.
