2001 JAN 31 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Hepatitis A virus can be transmitted easily between men having sex with men (MSM). Although public health programs have targeted this at-risk population with vaccine campaigns, the results have been less than desired.
A study presented at the 128(th) Annual Meeting of the American Public Health Association describes how an organization in Atlanta, Georgia, called AID Atlanta used innovative approaches to reach MSM with information about hepatitis A virus (HAV).
AID Atlanta grew out of a need to provide awareness and assistance to the growing population of individuals with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in Atlanta. Researchers presented a description of their methods at the conference in a report titled "Trust Us, Yellow is Not Your Color: Drag Queens Respond to Hepatitis."
