Was an international arms dealer attempting to buy influence with the new Bush administration? That question, NEWSWEEK has learned, recently prompted Republican Party officials to return $100,000 donated by Utah- based diet company Essante. The company's sole principal is Sonia Falcone, whose husband, Pierre Falcone, was arrested last month by French police on charges of influence peddling, misappropriation of funds and tax fraud.
