Domestic shoe exports seen rising again in '89 WASHINGTON (FNS) -- During 1989 domestic shipments of nonrubber footwear are expected to increase for the second consecutive year and only the fourth time since 1968, according to the Commerce Department's industrial outlook.

The long-term outlook for the nonrubber footwear manufacturing industry is "slightly brighter" because of stabilized industry production and its projected gradual increase over the next five years.

However, the recently released annual study said that rubber and plastic footwear shipments are expected to decline further in the foreseeable future as imports continue to displace domestic production, possibly making a number of U.S. producers shift to being distributors …
