Mercedes-Benz touts its ML55 AMG sport-utility vehicle as the "fastest SUV in America." The sport-ute also boasts the high-performance capability of a sports car, the automaker proclaims, the luxury of a fine sedan and the utility of an off-road recreational vehicle.
Coulda fooled me.
Now, don't take that wrong: this five-passenger, 4WD Mercedes is a fine vehicle -- comfortable, competent, sturdy-feeling, entirely pleasant to drive.
It just doesn't strike me as the last word in sport-utes. Especially not with its $65,545 sticker more than double the retail price for Lexus' top-selling RX300 model, which it most resembles.
