Business travel is taking off at Oakland International Airport.
The percentage of passengers using the airport for business skyrocketed from 32.9 percent in 1995 to 46.9 percent in 2000, according to a survey by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.
"We are seeing a big shift among business travelers flying in and out of our airport," said airport spokeswoman Cyndy Johnson. "More and more of them are telling travel agents or their corporate travel people they will only fly out of Oakland."
While San Francisco International Airport has recorded the worst delays among the nation's major airports in recent years, Oakland has the overall best on-time record in the Bay Area, with 77 percent of its flights arriving and departing in a timely fashion. Congestion in and around …
