MOSCOW Russian media magnate Vladimir Gusinsky, arrested Dec. 12 at his villa in Spain, is putting up a fight to escape extradition to Moscow. He'll likely remain in a Madrid jail for considerably longer than the 40 days in which Spain must formally react to an official request from Russia's prosecutor's office.
Gusinsky's media holdings, including NTV -- Russia's lone independent channel -- have been fiercely critical of the government, and his supporters say the charges are an attempt to stifle their voice.
