JAKARTA (JP): Historical dramas leave many viewers cold, with all their pomp and circumstance counting for very little when it comes to today's realities. From their heyday in the 1930s and 1940s, when suave actors like Errol Flynn ruled the cinematic waves and Bette Davis had a hold on roles as Elizabeth I, the dramas have suffered somewhat from changing times and tastes.

A couple of exceptions in the past year were Gladiator, a stunning spectacle of a movie which was a success all over the world, and Joan of Arc, now available on VCD and reviewed below.
