Maserati delays return to U.S. Maserati is pushing back its reentry to the United States until 2002, due to delays in developing the new Spider and a normally aspirated 4.0-liter V8 engine intended for the U.S. market. Maserati had planned to return to the United States in early 2001 with the new two-seat Spider derived from the 2+2 3200 GT, the coupe introduced in Europe in fall 1998. Now, look for the debut in early 2002, with the current 3200 GT coupe equipped with the new 4.0-liter V8 engine. The Spider is expected in Europe by late 2001 or early 2002, arriving in the United States about six months later. Maserati withdrew from the U.S. market in 1991.
