Film Industry More Than Just Lights, Camera and Action.(Brief Article)
Richard Chamberlain, Andy Garcia and Drew Barrymore. These are just a few of the big name Hollywood actors that have appeared in Saskatchewan to film major motion pictures. The appearance of these actors in the province is proof that the Saskatchewan $75 million-plus film industry is healthy and growing.
Film companies such as Minds Eye Pictures, Heartland Motion Pictures, and about 40 other production companies have helped put Saskatchewan on the movie map. These companies provide over 700 frill-time equivalent jobs. Projected growth over the next four years is 2,000 full-time positions.
Although most of the current jobs are in Regina and Saskatoon, smaller communities -- Moose Jaw, Fort Qu'Appelle, Indian Head, Craven and the Pasqua Reserve, for example -- are also developing production companies.
