WASHINGTON -- Ovulatory dysfunction is the leading cause of infertility in white women, while tubal factors are most likely to blame in blacks.

That was the conclusion of a retrospective chart review performed by Dr. Michael A. Thomas and his associates at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The study included 765 women who presented at two infertility centers in Cincinnati during a 2-year period, Dr. Thomas said at the annual meeting of the National Medical Association.

Eighty-six percent of the patients were white, 10% were black, and 4% were of other races. Ovarian dysfunction caused infertility in 47% of white ...
