SHAH ALAM, Wed. - The Selangor Scholarship Provident Board has appointed a panel of lawyers to take court action against 5,327 people to recover outstanding education loans totalling RM21.419 million.
Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohd Khir Toyo said 41 of them who received loans to study overseas owed the board RM1,019,982.55 while another 3,680 who studied at local institutions of higher learning owed the board RM14,439,386.79 since 1989.
"Another 1,606 who took loans amounting to RM5,959,900.75 under the 'Fast Track' skills study loans have also not settled the loans since 1996," he told reporters after chairing the State Executive Council meeting today.
