Warner combines digital audio, MIDI information BURBANK, Calif. -- Music is the most inter-active of all art forms, and compact disc technology will soon take that interactivity to new levels. One of the quietest product demonstrations at NAMM, which nevertheless attracted a fair amount of interest, was a new compact disc format from Warner New Media that combines digital audio with MIDI information.
Warner announced the new format, called CD+MIDI, in June and has kept a low profile since. "We don't get into the announcement mode too much," said Warner New Media President Stan Cornyn, who is well-known for his involvement in the development of the compact disc-interactive format.
Ninety-five percent of standard audio compact discs are used to store digitized sound. According to Warner, the remaining 5 percent leaves room for roughly 30 Mbytes of graphics and/or MIDI information.
