Richard Young Center, Nebraska's largest psychiatric provider, has informed ValueOptions Inc. that it intends to terminate its Medicaid contract because the managed behavioral health care company refuses to provide sufficient compensation for services.

ValueOptions serves as the contractor for a statewide Medicaid managed care program that provides mental health services to 140,000 lives. ValueOptions has managed the program since July 1995 and began a second contract, for two years, last January. The mental health program is the state's only statewide Medicaid managed care program.

Withdrawing from the Medicaid program is a last-resort action, Sandra Carson, Richard Young's president, told MHW.
