NBC will consolidate units under one bank

National Bancshares Corp. of Texas -- one of the region's oldest banking companies -- is taking the four banks under its control and reorganizing them into a single institution with assets of around $563 million.

The San Antonio-based holding company plans to fold NBC Bank-Laredo, NBC Bank-Rockdale and NBC Bank Central in Luling into NBC Bank in Eagle Pass by the end of March 2001. The aim is to cut costs and position the bank to better compete against larger banks in the South Texas market.

Although National Bancshares Corp. is based in San Antonio, the holding company only operates a branch office in the Alamo City. The Eagle Pass, Laredo, Rockdale and Luling institutions were established …
