New firm shakes up retailers in Cebu.

CEBU CITY - Local retailers here not only have to contend with the prospect of a declining consumer demand but also with competition from foreign retail establishments.

"The big boys have come," said Robert L. Go, president of Prince Warehouse Club, Inc.

Mr. Go was referring to Pilipinas Makro, Inc., which opened its outlet in Cebu last week.

Cebuanos, who have Christmas bonuses to spend, trooped to Makro's warehouse-type retail outlet in barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City, and found prices much lower compared to those offered in existing retail …
