Madison Marquette rounds up retailers for $200M shopping center

Emeryville's big-box retail image will get a makeover with the development of a new upscale shopping center called Bay Street.

Developer Madison Marquette is set to break ground in January on 390,000 square feet of open-air retail just north of IKEA's Emeryville store. Originally called Emeryville Town Center, Bay Street will be the biggest shopping center development to serve the Emeryville-Berkeley-Oakland area in many years.

The project includes 350 market-rate condominiums built by Castle Group. Madison is investing $75 million, while Castle is putting another $125 million into the …
