Poll: 78% of eligible voters plan to cast ballots Yomiuri In an indication of strong voter interest, 78 percent of eligible voters said they would "definitely" be going to the polls to vote in the House of Representatives election Sunday, according to the latest Yomiuri Shimbun survey. The figure was up six percentage points from a similar survey taken shortly before the lower house election in October 1996. The number of absentee ballots so far has shown a drastic increase from the previous election. The turnout at the Sunday election is thus expected to exceed the record-low figure--59.65 percent for single-seat constituencies--of the previous election. As many as 71 percent …
