Lake Biwa water supply cut eyed after 2-month drought Yomiuri OTSU The lack of rainfall over the past two months and the intense summer heat have caused Lake Biwa's water level to drop to a record low this year of 82 centimeters below normal and may require reductions in water supplied by the lake, local officials said Wednesday. Officials at the Hikone Local Meteorological Observatory in Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, said the current spell of hot, dry weather was likely to continue in the coming weeks. As a result the Kinki Regional Construction Bureau and prefectural governments in the Yodogawa river basin will have to reduce the amount of water they use from the lake, possibly …
