CAP: Don't back down in Penang taxi meter matter.

THE "leave" taken by many Penang taxi drivers in protest against being asked to use meters this month has set the stage for a test of wills. The taxi drivers are fighting for meter rates that will be higher than anywhere else in the country.

The Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board (CVLB) has responded strongly by warning of show-cause letters and revocation of permits.

CVLB principal assistant secretary (enforcement) Abdul Hai Zawawi got straight to the point when he said that whether they call it "off day or family day", as far as the CVLB was concerned, "they have gone on strike".
