ACM Council Meeting February 25 and 27, 1988 Minutes Summary The ACM Council met during CSC '88 on Thursday, February 25, and Saturday, February 27, 1988. All Council members were in attendance with the exception of Herve Gallaire, who was represented by proxy at the Thursday evening session.
In this summary, the report, information items, and action items are presented by subject rather than chronological order of the day.
1988 Computer Science Conference
The 1988 Computer Science Conference, co-chaired by Lucio Chiaraviglio and Fred Massey, was held in Atlanta, Georgia, February 23-25, 1988. The conference was very successful, with a reported attendance of over 1700. The Program Committee for CSC '88 arranged an excellent program with the focus being on software: the challenge of the future. Twelve technical panels were held addressing topics in computer science computing, windowing systems, AI, software quality, software risk and liability, architectures, language standards, programming support, information systems, consortia, modeling, simulation and accreditation.
Council, by acclamation, thanked Lucio Chiaraviglio and Fred Massey, Co-chairs, of CSC '88, and their Committee, for their fine work on behalf of the ACM 1988 Computer Science Conference.
Termination of NCC Agreement
Due to the fact that all scheduled NCC conferences have been cancelled and no future NCC Conferences are planned, Council, by a vote of 21 For, 0 Opposed, 2 Abstentions, authorized its AFIPS Directors to negotiate with the other signatories of the NCC agreement for the termination of that agreement.
Council Elections
Ron S. Oliver was elected as Mountain Regional Representative for a term scheduled to expire on June 30, 1989. Oliver was elected to fill the unexpired term of Mary Jane Stoughton.
