SOFTWARE LIFE CYCLE PROCESS STANDARD (P1074) STATUS REPORT The project to write an IEEE "Standard for Software Life Cycle Processes" (Project P1074) was initiated in August, 1984. The purpose of this standard is to define the processes that are mandatory for the development and maintenance of critical software. It is significant that the standard emphasizes the software processes themselves, rather than the time-sequencing of those processes. The document does not mandate a standard IEEE software life cycle model.
