Court squashes railway union suit.

The fight by the National Railway Workers Union (NRU) to reinstate over 900 members who were fired in 1987 when the national rail service was privatized suffered a savage blow Wednesday as the Tokyo High Court authorized the mass dismissals.

The union was appealing the 1998 Tokyo District Court ruling that nullified the Central Labor Relations Commission directive that ordered seven Japan Railway (JR) companies, which took over operations of the Japanese National Railways (JNR), to employ the sacked union members.
