Shaw Bros. takes second lap into Asian pic biz

HONG KONG It has been a decade-long hibernation.

Sensing a recovery in the ailing Hong Kong film industry after a relatively healthy box office summer, the once-legendary Shaw Brothers studio has brought its film operations out of mothballs and announced plans to make at least 20 films a year.

Mona Fong, wife of 93-year-old tycoon and Shaw Brothers co-founder Run Run Shaw and a longtime studio employee, will take the helm of the reborn operation. It's another dramatic U-turn for the company that once ruled Hong Kong film.
