On 20-21 March 2000, the Department of Composition at the Conservatory of Music, State University of New York-Purchase College, presented a festival of music of the American composer Larry Austin, comprising a lecture and two concerts.
On the Monday of the festival Larry Austin spoke about "The Spirit of the New in American Experimental Music of the 20th Century: Charles Ives's Universe Symphony (1911-51) and John Cage's Williams Mix (1951-53)."
