Centre opts for 'strict' Governors.

NEW DELHI, Oct. 30. - The countdown to the creation of Chhattisgarh, Uttaranchal and Jharkhand began today with the Centre appointing the Governors to the three new states.

Retired IPS officer Mr Dinesh Nandan Sahay, the vastly experienced Mr Surjit Singh Barnala and former Cabinet secretary Mr Prabhat Kumar have been sent to Chhattisgarh, Uttaranchal and Jharkhand respectively. The government wants to send the impression that it was sending strict administrators to the new states, an Union minister said.

The politically less controversial Chhatisgarh comes into effect from Wednesday, Uttaranchal will be formed on 9 November followed by Jharkhand on 15 …
