The Alaska Women's Environmental Network, a project of NWF's Alaska office, has been exploring new ways to link some 1,000 women conservationists throughout the state.
Not surprisingly, an Internet listserv is the network's most popular feature. But to increase person-to-person contact, NWF recently launched an ambassador program in which women from urban areas travel to rural villages to learn from native Alaskan women. "Many of these villagers live a traditional life-style based on a strong land ethic," says Martha Levensaler, regional organizer in the Alaska office.
