The Royal Mail has defended itself against an attack by the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) over its plans to launch a new Postal Preference Service (PPS).

The DMA has written to members, MPs and new postal regulator Graham Corbett expressing concern over Royal Mail's involvement in the PPS. It contends that the PPS, which allows customers to choose the direct mail they receive, would operate from a monopoly position because of Royal Mail's association with government.
