John Salmon, the former chairman of CDP who stepped down to take a part-time role as its president and creative advisor in 1995, has retired after more than 25 years at the agency. He was behind the famous Benson & Hedges "pure gold" campaign in the 70s.

David Lynch, the director of cult classics such as Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks and Wild at Heart, will make his commercials debut by directing the launch ad for Sony PlayStation 2. The spot, from TBWA\London, is due to break next month.

CDP has been appointed by the European telecoms company Atlantic on a project basis. The agency will handle the launch of the Atlantic brand across Europe. A branding campaign will break in the national press on Friday (6 October).

Allan Rennie has been appointed the new editor of The Sunday Mail, Scotland's biggest-selling Sunday newspaper. Rennie has been serving as the acting editor of the newspaper since the recent appointment of Peter Cox as editor of its sister title, The Daily Record.
