Group to end pact with Aetna U.S. Healthcare.(Brief Article)

A group of 170 physicians in the Allen town and Bethlehem area have notified Blue Bell-based Aetna U.S. Healthcare that they plan to terminate their contracts with the managed-care company as of Dec. 31.

The doctors are all members of the Lehigh Valley Physician Group, which manages 33 practices in 42 locations.

"We all feel very strongly that doctors should take the lead in making decisions and managing the care of our patients," said Dr. Donald Levick, chairman of the Lehigh Valley Physician Group's Board of Governors. "Aetna U.S. Healthcare's regulations and red tape make this increasingly difficult."
